Albert Beardsell from Newsome was just one of the many ‘ordinary men’ who served with the Huddersfield Territorials in the Great War. He gave his life fighting for his country at Thiepval, September 3rd 1916, but this is just one of many stories that can be told.
The Ordinary Men Regimental Heritage Project records the fate of all the men of the original Battalion who went to France in April 1915 and those who joined them as reinforcements as the war progressed. Information is also held on every man who mobilised with the Battalion on August 5th 1914.
